Is there a way to delete files from an embedded vm card? I will need to clean out some old mail boxes. Can I delete some of the unneeded language prompt files?

Yes you can BUT !!!!!!!!!!

Do not delete the 00031001.clp file or you card is broken !

All the other clp files are messages AND recorded announcements etc etc etc

Instead of starting a new thread, I'll stick to this one because embedded voicemail is so awful, it's not worthy of mentioning, or selling, but those CHEAP customers insist on buying it.....

W/ that said:

How do users check their VM remotely?  Transfering to *17 seems to hang the caller up and just prompt the transferer to enter the passcode of their VM box.  Likewise w/ the hard messages button.

Figure it out damn-it!

How can I delete them. tried the Embedded file mgmt utility but all the files are grayed out.

Get it out and put it in a card reader
But do not forget to backup the 00031001.clp file !!!

ivm-mbox-show       - Show mailboxes
ivm-mbox-show nnn   - Show contents of specified mailbox
ivm-mbox-clear nnn  - Clear specified mailbox
ivm-msg-del nnn dd/dd/dd hh:mm:ss    - Delete specified message
ivm-msg-del-all     - Delete all voicemail messages

Using the serial/DTE port the commands above will work on an IP500

Set a DDI to Destination Voicemail
if using analogue trunks, either dedicate a line for it, or make an AA Welcome message for the customer with a fallback of reception group, no dtmf to press, except for starf that want to check messages.  Set timer to 0 so callers don't wait long to connect.

Set the AA transfer options to :

Transfer the call to a short code e.g. *8888 Voicemail Collect ?

Embedded vm is NOT AWFULL, it is a basic VM.
Knowing the product is mandatory.

@Shine52 : You did not take the time to read documents
@kholladay : You do n=know the product, star for you

>Embedded vm is NOT AWFULL, it is a basic VM

Correct, but people (sales droids mainly) don't understand the limitations

Take Care

I find it weird how people dont like Embedded VM. We have lots of clients using it. It fits plenty of solutions.

Understand the limitations yourself. Make the customer aware of those limitations before you install it.

and six months down the line when they want call recording or whatever say, you know your voicemail couldnt do that, this is how much voicemail pro is. simples.

It's the Attendant you get with embedded that makes it usefull, the VM side is quite basic but if that's what they want....great smile

It is what it is.
I think it is basic and that is what you pay for
Vmpro has way more functionality but again thta is what you pay for

Bigger installes should have vmpro anyway
Smaller sites can do it with embedded
The only problem is that the smaller sites always demand on everything for a very low price !

Simplicity is key, especially these days, and I find embedded messaging an adequate solution for most small businesses. It can be frustrating, but it's "good enough": I'll migrate new customers to VM Pro when the economy improves. It also keeps the switch room cleaner: there's nothing worse than walking into a small closet and seeing a 15" beige CRT sitting on a mini-tower amidst a tangle of dust-covered cables on the floor next to boxes of old office supplies.

Those screen are even cheaper then an old CRT screen

The problem sometimes is that embedded is sold and there is a need for vmpro

It's a functioning VM system.  Awful might be a strong word, maybe not good is better.  When a customer says, my old Partner VM was better then this...I can't argue that point!

Figure it out damn-it!

tlpeter (Programmer)

Maybe true but i will not beat vmpro !
Embedded is basic and nothing more
If you need more then vmpro is the next level

VM Pro is a tremendous product for the price.  One of the best values in the industry in my opinion.

^i agree. it does so much. if i had my way i would seel VM pro to every customer. but the fact is not all of them need it.
