7700GX Laser unit replaced - regicon Fail

Recently I received a Polygon engine failure Error 11 and following the service manual steps I have replaced the laser unit. The error is now fixed.

I am currently running into trouble with the RegiCon setup. SM pg 4-118. (SB 580 Rev2) I print the dot grid. Bad alignment. Reset NVRam. Reprint grid. Bad. Continue with Coarse adjustment.

I run the Belt Edge Detect : OK, Then I run the RegiCon#4 Coarse Skew Adjust: FAIL.

Ok- SM says to try Coarse RegiCon Initialization. (pg 4-125) Ok Magenta and Yellow both need 3mm push to right. Write to NVram. Print Grid. Improved. All within 1mm.

Retry RegiCon#4 Coarse Skew Adjust: FAIL.

Status on the RegiCon#4 is:

DC685-4 Failed
A Out Blocks:0
B Out Blocks:0
<Press Back or Cancel to Abort>

Service Manual claims I have image quality issues. (box on pg 4-120) Run print tests. Look fine. No streaking.

I'm going nuts over here. I could manually adjust the lasers to visually align them but I cannot access the fine RegiCon Adjustments...

I noticed in thread723-1411433: Xerox 7700 RegiCon Fail that one solution was a quite invasive hack to actually replace the polygon motor on the old unit... Does that mean the laser unit from Xerox is bunk?

Do you have access to service bulletin 580 rev 2?

Hi Cultonflo, Yes I have SB 580v2. I can't seem to get the result to show a block count for either regicon 4 or 1.

Personally I think maybe a MOB sensor failure, an Engine Board failure, or a Hard Drive (ps file corrupt?)... not really sure which. Maybe I'll order them all and start replacing....

Anybody else seen this?

Ok, after nearly 2 weeks, a laser unit, a hard drive, and an engine control board....

The cheap freakin company Xerox who charges 1200+ for the laser unit can't seem to manufacture it square. RETARDS.

On a last chance hunch I checked the laser unit position again... it was 1/2-1/4 of a mm off. Loosened the two screws... did I goof? Funny the unit it in nice and snug. Seems the unit is lined up with the screw holes... but the box is slightly off....  Next, Violently, well really verY FIRMly slam the unit back in. Now it is perfectly square. Let's check the test... Regicon Fine #1 Pass with only 1 and 2 clicks recommended.. (noise)

If anybody else has this problem - please check the EXACT square of the laser unit in comparison with the actual printer body/case. It can drive you insane.
