hp laserjet 4050n

Hi All
we have a HP Laserjet 4050n at one of my sites that is having an issue. The printer is connected directly to the pc, running xp pro, via a parallel cable and it is also connected the the network via cat 5. Whenever the pc that the printer is directly attached to is turned on and the user prints from any app on her pc it prints a page that's blank except for a small c in the top left hand corner then prints the document ok, after that it will print normally for the rest of the day, unless she loggs / turns off her pc then when she restarts/ logs on again the first page she prints always has the small c in the corner.
Any ideas where to look? I've been the the HP site, downloaded the latest drivers for the printer, deleted then reinstalled the printer but no help same problem.

Regards
Max

RE: hp laserjet 4050n

Does the little c appear if the printer is connected only via the parallel port, after disconnecting the network link and rebooting the printer?

ok with the parallel cable only attached it prints the c first then the rest of the doc.
With the Network cable attached only it works fine.
So have just left it at that for the moment however why would the parallel cable make the printer print a c first befor the first print job?

A suspect parallel port set up on the PC?

A work around would be re-route from the troublesome PC to the printer via the network.  I take it there's no special reason for the printer to be attached via the parallel port, other than not upsetting the user!

That's right only to keep the user happy. She wants to be able to print without using the network( don't know why).
But guess she can get used to printing via the network nowsmile.
