Can Test Connect fine, but not otherwise

Can Test Connect fine, but not otherwise

(OP)
dusting off the cobwebs of this group to see if anything lies underneath...

I'm trying to connect to a known running SQLBase server (Visual MFG) from my intranet web development server.  I installed the Gupta SQLBase drivers & SQL.INI from working client, and a Test Connect from Data Sources on the Dev server reports success.

However, when I try to access the server using ODBC in PHP (using odbc_connect), I get the following error:

CODE

Warning: odbc_connect() [function.odbc-connect]: SQL error: [Gupta][ODBC Driver][SQLBase]00134 SQL CNO ERROR.SQL NOT FOUND LOOKING UP ERROR 09293, SQL state 08001 in SQLConnect in D:\WEB\test\visual_simple.php on line 5
Line 5 being:

CODE

$conn=odbc_connect('SQLBASE','SYSADM','<password>');

I've Googled and Googled the keywords & error codes all day today, and have not been able to make headway on this.  C:\Program Files\Gupta is in the path, I can connect to the server from my workstation using Excel, so I know ODBC connections can work.

Any ideas?
