I'm using GoldMine 6.7, and have been trying to use simple filters to find records which have not been contacted within a specific time frame. I've used "lastconton" less than or equal to such and such a date, but have had limited success. Of those records the filter returns, about one in twenty do not appear to match the criteria. For example, I specify all records with lastconton less than today's date minus 45 days, and the filter will often return records which have been extensively contacted within the last 45 days. So exactly which History entries or other actions update lastconton?

Email, Appointments and Calls update the LASTCONTON field.

These must also be of type "successful".

Thank you for that information, richardy. In the case of our installation of 6.7, neither calls (Call Out), nor email, nor appointments consistently update LASTCONTON, even though successful. In every 100 records returned by a filter based on LASTCONTON at least five will be false positives, with recent calls, emails or appointments which should have excluded them from the result. Is it possible to make changes in which fields and their contents trigger the LASTCONTON update?
