Unable to update 5420 firmware on IP500 ("Please Wait")

This is a new install and i was plugging phones in to update the firmware. All phones updated fine except for this one port. The phone display (5420) reads "Please Wait". I've plugged in mutliple phones to see if it rolls out the firmware to them and nothing. Ive since upgraded all exp mods and IP500. (IP500 is now at 4.1(12) and the exp mods are at 6.1(12).) The upgrade to 4.1(12) was suggested by our vendor tech support. This still has not resolved it. I have turned off firewall of computer with Manager. still nothing. Suggestions????

Did you upgrade the module to 3.2.999 first ?
What version does the phone display when you plug it in ?

I did not upgrade to 3.2.999 first. It didnt seem to be available. Would have I had to download that manually? And if so, can i revert back and upgrade correctly?
The 5420 phone displays Rel:4.00

Yes you can still do it
All DS16 andDS30 must be upgraded to 3.2.999 first
You can find this in the folder C:\Program Files\Avaya\IP Office\Manager\V3_2_999
There are two bin files
the nadcpv2 is for the digital modules

Change your working directorys (both) to this folder and only upgrade the digital expansion modules
After that change the working directory back to C:\Program Files\Avaya\IP Office\Manager

And upgrade the moduels again
After that reboot the ipoffice otherwise the moduls will not register to the ipoffice, this is shown as blinking green leds in the middel of the expansion module

About to follow suggestion, but noticed when i go to "upgrade" it shows that 5.2(999) is the available update. Is this right?? I am pointed at C:\Program Files\Avaya\IP Office\Manager\V3_2_999.

Yes that is the right one
Module and the manager program always show two version higher , in this case 5.2 instead of 3.2

I've followed your instructions and still coming up with "Please Wait". I do have the tftp ip the same as the laptop that Manager resides. Also note that Ive decided to update the firmware on these phones before the major programming of Manager has begun. Dont know if that affects anything. It has very little programming done on it thus far. Also note, that it seems to be only this one port.

Put it in a different port
The 5420 must get a 5.00 firmware, the 4.00 is an older one
When you look at the tftp do you see a request ?

Upgraded the firmware fine on another unused port. Now at Rel:5.00. But when plugged back into that one particular port (8) it still comes up with "Please Wait" and hangs there. Plug it into another port and it comes right up with the normal user and line app....etc.

With upgrading the system remembers the phone that was upgraded
If you reboot the ipoffice it will "forget" that
Then it should not do that anymore
If it still does then i think you have a bad port
What happens if you plug in a different phone in that port ?

Yea, i rebooted now and after the upgrade to DS. still "Please Wait" holding strong on that port. I've tried 3 new unopened phones on that port and same thing....at the same time upgrading firmware successfully on other ports. Anything else??? Is there another way to check to see if that port is bad or is that a good enough indication?? By the way, thanks a million for your time and help.

After a reboot put in a phone that already is updated
If it still shows please wait then it is broken

OR !!!!!! is it a base car din the ip500 and it happens to be a phone2 or phone 8 ??????

No its a DS module. Yea, I've tried rebooting, restarting OS, firewall off and multiple phones. I'm going with the bad port and replacing it. I appreciate all the time and help. Thanks tlpeter.
