CICS - Customer Information Control System
a communications front end on mainframes where users enter data on mapped dumb terminals which is communicated to an ibm mainframe. It also is used as an interface between client-server software, (html, java) etc zand mainframes.

IDMS - Integrated Database Management System) is a network CODASYL database that is hierarchal.

so a parent record owne children and grand children records and the standard navigation to top to bottom. There's very little data redundancy as the parent's will contain qualifiers for the children records.
