Is there anyone using Clipper apps on Novell networks printing to Novell printer queues and from XP clients ? Are you using the Novell client windows or the Miscrsoft client service for netware ?  I have a contact in Germany needing support for an old Clipper app ( 5.2e ADS, Novell, Blinker, Novell libraries ) I believe their problem is that the XP clients will not allow a connect to the Novell printer queue from within the Clipper app.

Any help / advise appreciated

I guess the old Novell libraries used in the Clipper apps, only support Netware Bindery, and not the newer Netware versions NDS.
Upgrade your libs, or turn on Bindery emulation mode on the Netware server (but System administrators may not want to do that...)

Many thanks TonHu. The Novell routines were part of the Clipper Toolbox. Has anyone updated these for NDS? if so can you let me know where I can get them from. I'll send your response to Germany and see if they can answer the Novell version question.

The NDS is so totally differen from bindery that most libraries where never updated to be compatible, and some migration was not easily done. Becouse of us' dropping Novell support alltogether, _we_ never pursued any effort to try and fix this, and I also didn't search for follow-up libraries.
Usually a complete replacement of the lib and rewrite of the networking-related stuff would be needed, I assume.

oldfart,

We are running on MS now and not NOVELL which we had for a long time.  The issue we had with printing was that the machine doing the printing had to "CAPTURE" a network printer.  Check out the CAPTURE command from NOVELL and see if that does anything for you.

Thanks,

Jim C.

oldfart,

Check out the Novell's "CAPTURE" command, and see if that helps.  I saw the same issue when we had Novell and that was what we used to get our printing thru Novell working.

Thanks,

Jim C.

When we had novell, we ran a batch file that launched our application. I the first line was the CAPTURE command. Then the application was launched. Have MS 2K Pro now though.

I've eleminated all clipper print jobs now and use ColdFusion to read the xBase tables and produce all output from a browser. Now, I'm, slowly, replacing all the data entry processes in CF as well.
