Can anyone explain to me exactly what is 'animation' or 'animating a clip'? Is this working with stills on a video clip, or some sort of effect on motion?

Animating is, to me, movement in a scene which is under the control of the editor rather than part of the original footage. Motion is one way. Rolling titles another. Some transitions would also qualify. Etc.

An alternative definition, but not to the exclusion of the first, is taking stop-motion footage of a scene to generate an animated movie.
