Formscape Consecutive Numbering

Does anyone have sample code to show how consecutive numbering is done within formscape for vouchers or invoices?

In the memory section you declare a number e.g. counter, and every time you walk throught the first page of an invoice you increase the value of that counter with the add icon.

This is very simple, or have I misunderstood the question.
