535 5.7.3 Authentication unsuccessful - but only on two distro groups!Helpful Member!

Hi Guys,

Got Exch2007 working fine - no major issues but this (and another, but i'll save that for another post!).

Got a number of distro groups, all working fine. Some for internal use only, others for both. All great.

Today I created two new groups. Tested from my workstation and emails went through fine. However, when tried from any external mail address, or even through a telnet SMTP session mails just aren't going through.

The Exchange Toolbox Mail Flow Troubleshooter reports:

"535 5.7.3 Authentication unsuccessful" as the error.

However, I've searched and can't find much on it - and nothing at all for Exchange 2007. My only two connectors (CLIENT and DEFAULT) have permissions OK for anon connections, and other distro groups work fine.

Anyone help me out?

Cheers,

Steve.

Bugger!

Ignore that post! smile

After some digging around, the full error was:

#550 5.7.1 RESOLVER.RST.AuthRequired; authentication required ##

Bit of detective work, but it appears Exchange doesn't allow un-authenticated senders to send to any distro group by default!!!! (How stupid is that!)

In properties for the distro group, under "Mail Flow Settings" go to "message Delivery Restrictions" there is a check box that is defaulted to "Checked" set to require Authentication. I unchecked this for all of the distribution mailboxes that are required to have mail sent to them from outside our org.

Cheers,

Steve.
