I am trying to find some affordable and good COBOL tools to do the following in either a Windows environment of AIX environment on RM/COBOL:

- Check Working Storage items against Procedure Division to verify item is being used
- Check COBOL program for dead code
- Check for duplicate code

In addition to these areas I would appreciate any tool or utility that will help us to clean up our legacy code and make it more efficient and manageable.

an optimizing compiler does a lot. Dead code is recognized. A cross reference is something most compilers do. Duplicate code is not recognized although an optimizing compiler can do something. There are specialised softwarehouses that analyzes sources and can change your source according to the rules you make. Cornerstone is one of them: http://www.cornerstone.nl/
