Hi,

I'm trying to install MRTG but I get an error stating that there is no such name or no response from my community name.  I used "public" but I think it's wrong.  how can i verify what my community name is exactly ?

thanks,
jj

Look at the configuration of the device you're querying.  The community string is basically an SNMP password.  If you don't know it, SNMP won't be able to tell you.

snmpwalk -v 1 -c <community> <host>

If you get a bunch of output, then you have the right values for <host> and <community>.  If not, it'll probably help narrow down any problem with SNMP.
