09010 GCI CLO Session closed error in sqlbase 6.1.2

Any chance anyone is familiar with this error and how to resolve it? I am attempting to open a database through the application, and it just closes with no message other than 'session closed'. If I attempt to connect through ODBC, then I get a more detailed message of:

[INTERSOLV][ODBC SQLBase driver][SQLBase]09010 GCI CLO Session closed

Looks like it was a version issue; I moved to SQLBase 7x and all was well.
