Sql query using group by didn't work as expected

Sql query using group by didn't work as expected

I am writing an sql query which is extracting values from 2 tables say, dept and emp

Dept(deptno,deptname) and emp(emp_id,empname,deptno,salary)

I want to get the output of all the employees in each department with maximum salary so the ouput columns should be -

I tried out this query -

select deptname,empname,salary from emp e,dept d
where e.deptno=d.deptno
and salary in (select max(salary) from emp group by deptno)

But it didn't work as expected . Can anybody please suggest a correct way for it.
