How to show line numbers?

Hi,

I have a quick question: is it possible to show the line numbers on the left/right hand side when I have a large file?

I have to think yes, but I can't say I've ever see it, nor can I seem to find a way to do it in any of my normal resources.

Just for the time being though, have you set line-number-mode to true so that you can at least see the information on the mode line... though I'm guessing your large file comment means you're sick of the ?????? response in big files.
