Onmonitor problem

When I try to use onmonitor I get this error msg :
"Cannot display information since $INFORMIXSERVER is on a remote machine" . The server I'm working on has both IFX10 and IFX9.4 instances , with separate sqlhosts. This error msg appears only on the IFX9.4 instances .
