Number Portability coming soon to Canada

Number Portability coming soon to Canada

(OP)
Hey Everyone.

I have a general question about the cellular market when Number Portability for cell phones was introduced in the US.  Does anyone recall if cellular providers offered incentives (such as buying out the remainder of your contract with your current provider) to try and get your business?

We have a large number of cellular users and I'm trying to position myself the best I can for March 2007 when Number Portability kicks in up here in Canada.  I don't want to have a large number of users bound by contracts (which I will have to buy out) when we decide to switch cell carriers.  But, if carriers offering to "buy out" contracts was common practice, then I'm less concerned about it.  I'm expecting a lot of hype about number portability throughout the industry and I'm hoping that there are going to be some good incentives offered to switch carriers.

Any input from those of you in the US market relating to your experience with Number Portability would be helpful.

Thanks,

Hmm I dont remember hearing of any such thing although it does sound like a good idea.  Provided they sign up for a larger contract that would show a good profit in the long run plus offer a better overal coverage and useage benefit.
