IBM Thinkpad T20 will not startup at all!

(OP)
I have an IBM Thinkpad T20 and it will not start at all.

When I attempt to power it up. It displays the standard IBM-ThinkPad screen with two options: 1) Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup Utility and 2) Press f12 to choose  a temporary boot device.

If F1 is pressed, it displays the message at the right lower corner: Entering IBM BIOS setup utility. If F12 is pressed, it displays in the same place the message: Preparing Boot Device List. And then in both cases, it just hangs and stops dead there without ever doing anything else!

the lights of the hard disk and battery are seen. If the power adapter is connected it would be acting the same way.

How can I get pass this problem and get the laptop goes to staring up Windows 2000, as it had done prior to the problem ?

Please help, help, help!

THANK YOU!
