How to write text in file x.x  and what editor is it?

I have used edit editor in which as soon as i typed  EDIT FILENAME  it opens the file in a new window or if it is new file then open it as blank.

Can any one tell me if i want to change this editor how to do it?

Thanks a lot for help.

RE: vax editor

You can use EVE (Extended Versatile Editor I believe it stands for...)

try the following:

$ EDIT/TPU filename

to save, type <ctl-Z>

You can setup a symbol to do this in your login.com:

$eve := EDIT/TPU

There are a number of options available, which can be stored in a file called EVE.INI in your sys$login...

Try the help facility for more information

Cheers,
Hugh.
