My company is having a problem where a lot of the users cannot see their contacts listed when they click on To… and try to view the contacts address book it doesn’t show up.

There are also a few who can.  I believe that the problem lies in the contacts properties...when you right click on the contacts folder, then go to properties, and then go to the "Outlook Address Book" tab, there is a checkbox there that says "show this folder as an email Address book"...those with the problem should be able to check that so that they can view the contacts as an address book and choose the names from there, however, it’s greyed out and the ability to check the box to allow this is gone.

The domain has some computers running W2K, and some with XPPRO (all with SP2).  All are were just updated Office XP with SP3.  I would wonder if it's the SP3 update, but I can't understand why it would affect some machines this way and not others.  Does anyone know a way to get the option back so that the users can check the box to allow the Contacts folder to be displayed as an Address Book?  Or of anything else that will help?

Check out threads 68-783510 and 68-793359.  This should get you sorted.

Thanks for trying Pat, but neither of them helped.  Is still can't do anything because the option is greyed out for the contacts to be listed as an adress book and I can't figure otu how to make it available.  Neither thread got me anywhere with that.

In Outlook, Choose Tools->Email Accounts...
Select Add a new directory or address book, then click next.
Select Additional Address Books, then click next.
Choose Outlook Address Book from the list, then click next.
You will have to close Outlook and open again for changes to take effect.
You will then be able to select the Show this folder as an email Address Book from the Outlook Address Book tab within the Contacts properties.

Hope this helps.

kcherni: that worked!  You're awesome, thanks so much!  To imagine that outlook is that retarded that you have to reactivate its address book!
