Yesterday my pc was fine. Today I turn it on and I get several errors like: "svchost.exe application error"
I am using Windows 2000.

I can connect to the net however I am having problems with applications like MS Access and others.

I don't know where to start to fix this problem.

Can somebody guide me?

Thank you

Rama

The very first error I've got when I turned on the pc is:
The instruction at "0x77fca111" referenced memory at "0x74e41e6e". The memory could not be "written".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

I really hope somebody can guide me through this problem.

Thank you,

Rama

Your are both correct! I pressed Ctrl-Alt-Del to look at the processes running and there it was: msblast.exe
I just downloaded the fix and all is running fine.

Thank you so very much!

Hey guys,
can i just add to Rmcta's request. i have the same problem as she had, regarding the svchost.exe always crashing. after it crashes most of the programs don't work and i can't use IE and going through links and all. i have reformatted and reinstalled windows 10 times so far and i still have the same problem everytime i go onto te internet. i thought it was my internet connection, but i doubt it cause i have been using this connection for sometime now without any troublem till recently.
Please Help, otherwise i'm gonna fail my exams coming soon.... so hurry

discman78 and clark11kent, i am finding the very same problems as you reported, ie.: (1) error box appearing about 5 mins after connecting on LAN, saying "svchost.exe has generated errors....program will have to be restarted. (2) things not working thereafter: (a) "add/remove programs" box in control panel is inoperative, (b) cannot paste to own hard drive, and (c) cannot execute clicking on web page links. Even symantec virus scanning is disabled. Only solution is to reboot and REMAIN WITHOUT lan connection. Blaster worm removal tool does not find anything. H*E*L*P P*L*E*A*S*E !!!!!!!

to be sure that you habe the virus yes or no ... look in the registry for a value that looks like. windows update = msblast.exe (it is located in hk local machine , software, microsoft, current version, run.
When you see that value delete it. Then you are virus free.

Search all the svchost.exe files on your pc and delete them. After a restart, W2k installs them again.

Try this link to remove the worm:

http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html

At my pc, it worked fine.

Next, go to microsoft, download and instell the patch:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

Thats it.

Hey guys,
I solved my problem after much searching.
You don't need to reinstall anymore, just go to this site and download the patch, i had installed service pack 3 b4 i installed the downloaded patch. It worked for me and i almost got killed by family for reinstalling unnecessarily :). God! computers can become a pain in the neck when u make them. Apparantly the glitch tht u r experiencing, is the blaster worm works. Anyway hope this works for u'll too. The first link starts the download immediately from micrsoft.com. The second one goes to microsoft.com so u can read more abt it and get the downlod too.

http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/1/f/01fdd40f-efc5-433d-8ad2-b4b9d42049d5/Windows2000-KB823980-x86-ENU.exe

http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=C8B8A846-F541-4C15-8C9F-220354449117&displaylang=en

You can use sp2 or higher versions to work the patch, read the ptach documents in the second link if ur not sure.
Let me know the outcome.
