I've switch to Windows XP. Everything works fine, except for Asus Live. I get the following message:
Video decoder detecting occurs error!
Possible reasons:
1. Your display card doesn't have a video decoder
2. Your monitor or monitor driver is not proper design for I2C Bus control

My card: Asus V7100 Deluxe Combo.
Motherboard: Socket 423 P4, 850 Chipset

Anyone with a solution?

Thanks!

I've got it working on XP!

- download the Nvidia-drivers (23.11)
- download the WDM-drivers (Nvidia, 1.08)
- download Digital VCR 2,5 Beta

After installing... it worked for me!

I switched too and had problems with the DVCR.  I found the solution on the ASUS download site.  Although, I'm still struggling with the audio capture.  There are a few zip files to download.  The driver first, then the beta software.  XP will warn you about it not being authorized, but ignore it and you'll get the correct drivers, etc.  Hope this helps.  Go to:   http://usa.asus.com/download/multimedia/beta-app.htm

Here is how it worked for me (ASUS 7100 Deluxe Combo under Windows XP)

1. Install ASUS 7100 Deluxe Combo Video Driver v14.62a
2. Download Digital VCR 2.5beta
3. Download Digital VCR 2.0
4. Unzip both
5. Replace WDMCapDrv folder in Digital VCR 2.5b with the same folder coming with Digital VCR 2.0 (so you are basically using a mix of beta VCR and released WDM capture drivers)
6. Run Digital VCR 2.5b installation.

At this point everything would work fine. But after some time it stops working - and I cannot figure out why. On my last installation it stopped working after the first time I ran Remote Desktop

ASUS DVCR + XP step by step

Step 1: If you have already installed the nVidia WDM drivers, uninstall them. First go to control panel ---> add or remove programs and uninstall the WDM drivers. I'm pretty sure you should do this next step as well and that is removing the hardware components of these drivers. Right click on My Computer ----> properties ---> hardware ----> device manager. You'll find all of the WDM components (all 4 of them) under Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Uninstall all WDM components.

Step 2: Next go to http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=windows2000 and download both the latest GPU driver and WDM driver. Install the latest GPU driver. Take the WDM driver (a self extracting zip file) and drag it into Winzip (actions ---> check out) and create a new program group. Delete the original file so you aren't tempted to click on the unmodified driver later.

The following was supplied by Dr|zzt:
Now find the "nvxbar.INF" in the folder you extracted the WDM's to (you might have to set explorer to not hide system files) open it up with notepad and scroll down to the bottom. The 3rd and 2nd last lines should look like this:
NVxbar.DeviceDesc="nVidia WDM A/V Crossbar"
NVxbar.Crossbar="nVidia WDM A/V Crossbar"

Change them to this:
NVxbar.DeviceDesc="ASUS WDM A/V Crossbar"
NVxbar.Crossbar="ASUS WDM A/V Crossbar"

Save the changes and click on setup in the new progam group and install the drivers.

Step 3: Go to ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/TREIBER/VGA/ASUS_VGA_TOOLS/
and find DVCR 2.0 beta. Download and install it with the ASUS WDM capture driver. Halt the installation when it gets to the nVidia WDM capture drivers (I'm not sure, actually, if it does any harm to install these older drivers). Anyway, I found that solved pretty much any problems I had... Good Luck!

More info on the topic (see previous post by me).

Reinstalling the (old?) driver from the original CD that came with the card (NOT made for winXP) fixed the problem with ASUS Live, meaning TV Tuner + Remote works perfectly. The CD doesn't claim to work with WinXP, but clicking the button in the flashy autorun program that says "Install Video Capture Driver" results in the message "... Successful ..." ;)
Reboot, and there you go.
Concerning ASUS DVCR; the sources seem to be set right but still the same sync problem. Another problem is that ASUS Live fails after ASUS DVCR has been run, really annoying since I don't use to shut down my computer (Suspend-To-RAM takes care of that, but the capture driver makes suspension fail!).

I had the same problem, but I fixed IT!
Heres how.

First.  Remove any 3rd Party drivers you have
Second.  Go to www.nvdia.com and download the detonator drivers for XP.

Third. Also from the same website download the WDM_1.08.exe

Fourth. Download the new Asus VCR(asvd200.zip)
Install Everything and you should be ready to GO!!

after setup i reboot and start asus live and answer is :
Video decoder detecting occurs error!
  The reason could be :
  1. Your display card doesn't have a Video

  2. Your monitor or monitor driver is not proper

i have an asusv7700 gts deluxe 64mb ddr
i have run win 98se win me win2k win xp
win98 se and win me are the only problem free os for asus live and digital vcr.
However Asus have 2 drivers that do work one is an earlier version driver for "win2k ver 6.49"and "14.62" and asus live. ver 4.62beta2
these do work for me in win2k and xp and i Have been able to capture video on both. However video is slightly choppy.
IMPORTANT ASUS LIVE AND DIGITAL VCR SHOULD BE INSTALLED BY A USER WITH ADMINISTRATOR PRIVELDGES. that is the username and pass created when the operating system was installed.
or make an account with admin.also some motherboards will show an unknown device in system properties, thisis actaully part of asus live or digital vcr so dont disable it.

Hello everybody!

I've got many of the problems above and I tried my ASUS V-7700 Deluxe 32 MB in almost all MS operation systems. The only systems which function properly are WIN ME, WIN 98 and WIN 98SE. With WIN XP, WIN 2000 and NT 4.0 I've got the mistakes which are mentioned before.

With Linux running I don't know about the capturing. At least the card functions. (Mandrake Linux 8.0/8.1)

So now I did it like this: I installed both WIN XP and WIN 98SE. In WIN 98SE I capture and in WIN XP I edit. It is a bit angry that I have to change the OS, but I reach my targets.

I hope, I helped a bit

Ok. I HAVE HAD it working fine in XP (14.62a + nVidia WDM 1.08). But then one day my composite input quit working. And the tuner "channel" from VCR turned black and white...

Things works fine with VfW under Win Me, but even there (Me) the WDM has the same problem.

Ideas? Gbg, this sounds a little like your problem.

Here's a solution for those with no sound when capturing in XP.

Make sure you hook your sound wire in the "Line-in" plug on your sound card.

Go into Control Panel.
Choose "Sounds and audio device".
Select the "Audio" tab.
Click on the "Volume" button in the "Sound Recording" section.
Now, put a check in the box beside "Select" in the "Line-in" section.
You are done. You can now capture with perfect sound.

Hi, I've done it with ASUS V7100 Deluxe Combo:

1 - Download all the latest drivers from nVidia (GPU, WDM, Stereo Glasses ...) Install all(making change in the ini file of WDM drivers from nVidia, change nVidia to ASUS)
2- Download ASUS Digital VCR 2.2 from: ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/TREIBER/VGA/ASUS_VGA_TOOLS/asdvcr22.zip

That's all, except that for some TV Channels the sound suxx but I think this is the best for now.

When I install the WDM Asus driver and I want to capture video (V3800 S-Video in) I get a lot of lost-frames. Looks likes the software is set to NTSC.
I use Ulead Media-Studio 6.5 set to 25 frames full pal.

When I used Win98 (VFW) it worked perfect.

Please Help

Can recognize many of the above problems. Have a 7700 deluxe. Capturing worked fine until I installed Windows XP.
VFW hasn't worked since. It cannot lock a framerate so sound and images are in fast forward mode.
With this setup
display driver 29.41
wdm 1.08
and Dvcr 2.2
I can record mpg's fine with no loss of framerate and perfect sound. However two problems remain:
I get black vertical bars in the image recording pal(BDHG) video.!
In capuring AVI with dvcr the image is flipped on both axes!

Just noticed there is a WDM 1.11 at this location: ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/TREIBER/VGA/

I'm a bit confused as to all these different version and numbering schemes of drivers, but I'll give them a try anyways.

well (sigh) back to testing

download it here: the newest non beta version:

Works for me!

I have the 8200 deluxe model. and am using XP Professional

I installed the asus live (during install it asks to install the WDM Capture driver. I said yes to that option.

Then after the installation was complete (and rebooted) it didn't work.

I got the no decoder found or I2C Bus not supported by monitor error.

If you goto C:\Program Files\ASUS\ASUS Live (or whereever YOU installed it to) you should see a file called i2cinst.exe. Run that and it should work. You shouldn't even have to reboot, but I would to be safe.

Good luck.
Terry.

P.S: If you need the i2cinst.exe file, email me (netfinder@sympatico.ca) and a reply address (obviously). I'll do my best to get you the file.

I have a 7100 combo-deluxe.
I'm checking this forum now since I installed Windows XP - about 9 months ago.

After all the tips that I read here, I concluded that until now there is only one decent solution: Install Windows ME or 98 on a second harddisk!!
Install your Asus-software on this second operating system
(I'm still using DVCR 1.4 - no frame drops - no sound problems) and capture your stuff.

For editing etc. you switch back to XP again.
The switching between operating systems can be done by creating a double boot-system or by switching the bootdisk in the BIOS.

Good luck.

Asus has just fine support.  Your problem is either a) you upgraded to XP instead of formatting your hard disk, or b) you have not installed the correct XP drivers, which I found in this thread about 4-5mo the SAME night I upgraded to XP.  I do feel for you though, I remember the battles with XP and drivers I had, BUT, after 3 formats and XP installs, my Athlon T-bird 800MHz, 384MB RAM, ASUS GeForce2 v6800 Deluxe has worked perfect.  I might add that some drivers work the capture, and not ASUS Live, and for some drivers its the opposite.  There might be a driver that works both by now, but I am starting my search for it now as I want to capture now.   By the way, my vid-input comes from my satellite box as my monitor is my TV.

here what i did to get the darn asus working, and as for their support, asus is not good period. If I have to spend days installing somthing then I am not getting the support i need. I am not a rookie PC user. Any way what i found to be the lucky strat. is to install nvidia drivers for the video card first then add the WDM driver and heres where the luck kiks in the first several times I installed the WDM driver XP would not recognize anything had changed. But i just kept on reistalling the drivers about 5 times and then bingo all sorts of new hard ware found. Now every thing works asus DVCR works great. As for people that get frame drops check your hard drive mak sure its a fast one for WIN XP. Hope this helps
Thanks to NVIDIA for picking up ASUS slack!!!

I had all kinds of problems with my Asus v8200 but I found the following solution for running it with XP:

1.  De-install all the software (asus and/or nvidia drivers, dvcr, alive, tweak, etc..).
2.  Download the Win2KXP_2941.exe driver from the German Asus site, the only place that seems to have all the current stuff: ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/TREIBER/VGA/V8xx0/Win2KXP_2941.exe
3.  Download the WDM Capture 1.11
ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/TREIBER/VGA/V8xx0/wdm1_11.zip
4.  Download Digital VCR 2.2
ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/TREIBER/VGA/ASUS_VGA_TOOLS/ASDVCR22.EXE
5.  Install in the following order: video driver, capture driver, digital vcr 2.2.  I recommend you reboot after each step.

You can also get other things like the Tweak utility, and the the latest video security if you poke around in the ftp site:
ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/TREIBER/VGA/

No other versions worked for me, and DVCR is way better than Alive - which is no longer being developed.

I have finaly done it with win xp and asus v7700 video card and conecting the video camera. Here is how I did it.
use explore from start and open up all the files, right click on all the setup and executable files, basicly all the files that have compatability mode tab, and tick run in compatability mode. set for win2k do this for all the items in that folder and then run the setup file. if I does not run and errors (not 95 compatable) change from win2k to 95.
I installed asus live viewer last. I have all the codecs set and it captures great if you have probs let me know.

Good luck

Try the following WDM driver. Obviously Gainward has adapted the original driver, but this one also works with Asus cards (at least with my one 6600).

http://www.gainward.de/gwnewsite/gwdown/gwdriver/gwnvidia/video.exe

don't ask me why, but it works. Previously I got the same problem (white rectangel when trying to record) as you. Unfortunately this solution is not very stabel. The DVCR is crashing very often.

hope this helps

I had the "white block" problem caturing with the 7700 Deluxe and Win-XP
I tryed the 29.42, 29.41, 29.80  and also the old 12.41 together with the Asus-version of WDM1.08 and the nvidia 1.11 and 1.12 (from gainward). It did not work together - each combination gave a big white block in the middle of the picture in the capture movies.

Asus Germany gave me a quick answer to my "white block capture problem" (e-mail within half a day!)
the answer:
"mit den WDM Capture Treiber 1.08 von Nvidia direkt (http://www.nvidia.de/view.asp?PAGE=windows_xp_2000) tritt das Problem nicht mehr auf."
means that with the WDM1.08 direct downloaded from nvidia it works, with asus version it does not work.

No it works!!  I use downloades from asus the 29.41 and the asdvcr22 an from nvidia the wdm1.08

Thanks to the german ASUS support.

Good luck

1. Asus driver for 7x00 ver 29.80
2. Asus WDM driver ver 1.1.1
3. Asus Live ver 4.6
4. Asus Digital VCR ver 2.2
I've connected my camera to composite input. Now the problem : Asus Live shows image from the camera, but there is no sound, when click on capture I get error : "Connecting to capture dirver occurs error...". When I start Digital VCR I have no image, no sound. I have checked that I've got correct setting for video format and input type. This problem occurs both on W2K and Win 98. Please help.

I have the ASUS 8200 Deluxe, and I can't capture anything. First off I am a noobie to this capturing video stuff so bear with me. My VCR has one video out port (its yellow) is that an RCA out put or a Composite out put? (WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE) Well I am using a  monster RCA cable that I use for TV out on the ASUS card (tv out works fine), I hook that cable to the video out of the vcr to my 7 pin asus svideo in adpator which has an rca adaptor (yellow) along with an svideo adaptor. Is that a right set up? If not please tell me what the right (cable) set up would be. Now I will try all the solutions given here for now but I'm starting to lose my hair trying to figure this out.

I'm using Windows ME with asus 29.80, asus WDM 1.11 (i think also tried the nvidia WDM 1.08), asus dvr 2.1 beta (i've tried all of the other versions), asus live (all versions). When I set it up for capture using TV tuner option I get a gray screen with lines running up and down horizontally, it's like SNOW on TV just not dots. The other two options composite and svideo just give me a BLACK SCREEN. I believe my TV-in is broken, don't you think so?

I can capture using my camera through USB, but I really want to get my family tapes from the VCR in the computer. I'm about to sell this sucker and get me an ATI all in WONDER card or get that DAZZEL device if this doesn't work

ASUS USA does suck in support...

I have had luck in the past installing the asus v7700 deluxe with xp and windows 2000.  I installed newest drivers from asus website (the german one mentioned above in july).  Grabbed 2980 and the asuswdm.  In 2000 i installed digital vcr 2.0 right off the bat with no problem.
XP
In xp, i installed the latest vid driver and asuswdm driver but, u have to install 2.1 first cause that is the only version with an xp compatible asus asv2 codec (located under device manager, sound video game controllers, video codec, right click hit properties, resource tab).  If it doesnt appear at the top of the list it aint installed.  Asus dvcr 2.1 is bundled with it.  Just upgrade the wdm and advcr without uninstalling.
Recently purchased a asus geforce ti4600 ultra deluxe card and have tried all of the above that worked with the 7700 card without any luck.  All drivers install, but under sound and video game controllers in device manager i get "error code 10 device cannot start" with the asuswdm capture driver(universal).
Anyone got a clue cause I've talked to tech support 5 times and all i get is the same install i just did, we'll call u back, or they send me the same drivers i already had.

Thanx

Something to try?? (v3400 model users...)

I have the following setup:

ASUS P2B (1.02, BIOS 1014 BETA 001)
ASUS V3400TNT/16/TV (SDRAM model, BIOS 2.04.17)
Windows XP Professional
German ASUS Drivers v29.80

I have tried installing ASUS LIVE 4.6, 4.6b2, and 4.6b5 with no luck.  I have tried using WDM drivers 1.08 (nVidia), 1.08 (ASUS PAL patch), and 1.11 with no luck.  Originally ASUS LIVE gave me the "no I2C" support error, but as Netfinder posted earlier, there is an "i2cinst.exe" file included in the ASUS LIVE package that fixes that problem.

As others have encountered, my "nVidia WDM Capture Driver" always errors with Code 10 ("Device cannot start").

I sent an email to ASUS, and actually got a reply back the next day (today).  They indicated, and here is the catch...

ASUS LIVE does not yet support Windows XP!  At least no released version.

ASUS suggested I try the ASUS Digital VCR for Windows XP.  I have submitted a followup clarification request because the link to their DVR software does not indicate that it supports the V3400 card.  I will post again when/if they reply, clarifying whether or not v3400 cards are supported with the DVR software.

I have not yet been home to try the DVR software, but I wanted to go ahead and post this information hoping that it may help some other frustrated customers.  Below is a snippit of ASUS's email with the steps to follow.

Hope it helps!
dane

-------------- ASUS Support Reply --------------

Dear Customer,
    Thanks for choosing ASUSTeK.

We have not released ASUS Live Utility software for Windows XP OS. But we have new capture software, which is called ASUS Digital VCR software version 2.2 for our VGA card. Please download it from our website as following URL:

http://download.asus.com.tw/mm_dl_menu.asp?Status=51&l1=2&l2=2&l3=3&mid=20

ASUS Digital VCR 2.2 needs the nVidia WDM capture driver installed. It is available from:

http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=drivers

Installation Process:
  1. Windows XP OS installation
  2. Install Motherboard AGP driver according to the motherboard chipset.
  3. Install ASUS Windows XP driver.
  4. Install ASUS Digital VCR software 2.2.
  5. Due to those drivers are not certificated by Windows XP, please install them anyway. After reboot, it will auto detect the new hardware and install all of WDM driver and capture driver.
  6. Please open Windows Device Manager, if you can find "nvidia capture device", "nvidia audio/video crossbar", etc in "Sound, Video and Game Controller" list and without any Unknown Device, then you can run our ASUS DVCR program for testing.

I have an ASUS v3400 running under WinXP. I am getting Device cannot start, Code 10 with Detonator Drivers 29.42 and Nvidia WDM 1.08 and also 1.13.

Has anybody figured out what to do yet?

On one of my machines, I'm also running Windows XP, ASUS v3400 (TNT with TV in/out).  I get the Code 10 when I try to install ANY of the different versions of the WDM drivers.  I haven't spent more than an hour messing with it yet, but if anyone finds the solution PLEASE post it here, it would save me (and others here) a lot of time...

I think you can fix this if you run your machine in "Standard Mode" instead of "ACPI Mode" - unfortunately the machine I'm using is a dualprocessor box, so I am forced to keep it running the ACPI MultiProc Hardware Abstraction Layer... you guys with single CPU systems can probably change to Standard PC mode and get the WDM driver running.  Do a complete backup before you make this change however.

I've now tried ASUS DigitalVCR instead of ASUS Live on my Win98Se system (with V3400). The prog doesn't find the capture drivers. I suppose it's because of the code 10 (device cannot start). Has someone found an approach to that problem??? I'd be very glad to here some solutions...

I finally worked it out (for the V3400) to get it going under XP. You need to install ASUS Live Version 4.6B2 (with capture driver Version 1.1.0.0) It works up to 704X576. No full screen TV overlay though. If you can,t find this version on the net, I can mail it to you. (gbeu@ozemail.com.au)

did anyone find a fix for the july 19,2002 post from berserker, I have pretty much the same problem.  My computer is in a dual boot mode winxp/win98se.  both operating systems have the same symptoms.  Dvcr will load but in TV Tuner mode there are white/grey horizontal lines running through the picture.  However if I set the channel then go into composite video mode I can watch the picture.  In order to change channels I have to go back into TV Tuner mode then back to Composite again.  The sound only works intermittantly.  Also sometimes I cannot get any channels above 13 even though the setting is on antenna mode.

Running WinXP and Win98SE
Athlon 2100+
512DDR
Asus V8200

Well, i returned my brand new asus v8460 for rma service cause of the code 10 error.  Well, they rudely called me early one morning asking me what was wrong with it.  I was so mad!!  They called me back cause they still couldnt find a problem with it a half hour later.  I explained that they gave me a case number for a reason and that i shouldnt have to explain the problem over and over to 12 different tech guys who give me the same answer:
"MAKE SURE U DISABLE ANTI VIRUS SOFTWARE!"
Anways, they sent be a copy of the log from their testing software and it said it came up with no errors.  This also included 3 hrs of video loop time (probably with a keygen copy of 3d mark 2001 se).

I'm not a stupid moron, i know how to install hardware and software(well except their software cause some 90 year old nearsighted fool wrote it!).

Well, the only solution for anyone elses problem is to install asus digital vcr 2.1 beta cause there is a video codec (under sound and video game controllers video codecs in 2000/xp) that only beta 2.1 installs!  Gotta upgrade to anything else.  Watch carefully when it auto uninstalls before u can install; i.e. make sure when it says "file no longer use by system would u like to remove it?" that u say NO to removeing "asus asv2 codec.*.  Everything else u can say yes to.

DVCR 2.1 beta xp/2k comes with its own asus wdm install which is 1.08 (u can upgrade to 1.11 later).

For those having a problem with vertical lines in and mode (composit tv tuner etc) ur probably using the nvidia drivers.  These were written for detonator drivers only.  U need asus modified wdm drivers!

Anyone have a clue about the code 10 error?  I looked it up and windows help said something about it being a device failure error.  I am pretty sure that its ok since asus rma told me they installed wdm and capture a dvd with it.  I have replaced everything in my system (motherboard, video card, monitor) and noticed i have a agp voltage problem.  AGP x4 uses vddq 1.5 and 3.3 voltage for agp voltage.  I have been having problems keeping the 3.3 voltage above 3.0.  I have purchased a new powersupply but its not here yet.  I'm sure i will repost by then and hopefully with good news.

A ray of hope: I *did* have the Code 10 error, but it disappeared after one of the following things happened:

1) I reinstalled Windows XP after accidentally removing the boot flag from my C drive.

2) I installed the correct drivers for my internal Netcomm Lucent 56k modem. When the incorrect driver was installed, the modem was unable to hear the dial tone. After installing the non Microsoft driver, the modem worked, and I had a few new system devices, including one called "Unimodem Half-duplex Audio Device". When I noticed this, I also noticed that there was no longer a question mark icon over the Asus WDM driver.

I suspect the Code 10 appeared because the modem and video card were sharing the same IRQ, and by fixing the modem, the Code 10 resolved itself.

Well, i found an irq sharing my vid card and i had the capture driver in without a hitch.  I rebooted and i got error code 10 once more.  I rebooted and xp decided that it wasnt gonna boot anymore.  I had a config file go corrupt on me for the 45 times i installed/uninstalled wdm drivers.

I reinstalled xp over the same partition to save my personal files in about 20 minutes.  Thank god all my files were still there.  I just have to reinstall every program again.  I reinstalled all asus package and it wouldnt work again.  I checked for any conflicts or sharing irqs and nothing.  Finally i was moving all my drivers from my backup on c:\program files\icq\received files video to my d: backup hd.  I then tried one more time and it worked.

I was trying to install drivers from a dir that windows doesnt let hidden files into any system folders(ya ntfs, not really).

Thanx for all the help.  Forums really work for u sometimes.

I thought I had the problem solved with all the knowledgable tips being offered here but to no avail! Here are the specs:

Athlon 700/Win XP Pro/256MB SDRAM/Asus v7100 Deluxe Combo

Clean installed (with antivirus disabled) the following as suggested by DerZyniker (see Jun 24, 2002):
1. Asus 29.80 video driver
2. Asus 1.11 WDM driver; with modifications by hcir (see Jan 24, 2002)
3. Asus Digital VCR 2.2; using the video codec from DVCR2.1 as suggested by SirShaggSalot (see Aug 8, 2002)

I cannot see a thing from my VCR source, which is connected to the breakout box, within DVCR (or VirtualDub either, for that matter) but it does perform a "capture" at 6 fps. Dropped frames? Oh, several. The resultant file is the same result as Luvien (see Aug 12, 2002), nothing but a horizontal black bar on top, a horizontal white bar in the middle, and a horizontal black bar on the bottom.

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated as I cannot afford to lose any more hair over this [granted, if I didn't pull so hard that would help ;) ].

Thanks!

******************************************************

BUT !!  This is NOT working with my setup.  After 4-5 install of Windows Xp it seems that you CANT mix the NVIDIA WDM and the ASUS VIDEO CARD DRIVER.  If you do so, you will see something from the S-Video IN, but nothing from the cable TV.

The best way is :
1- Install the latest Asus driver for you video Card
2-Reboot
3- Install DVCR2.1 WITH the Asus WDM driver
Note, in windows Xp I found that even if you remove the nvidia WDM driver, Windows will still get these from somewhere in his directory.  If you already installed NVIDIA WDM capture, install DVCR 2.1 with Asus WDM, after reboot new hardware will be found.  When everything is installed, go in Control panel, Sound, Device, check the WDM driver you will see that the name is still NVIDIA.  Update them manually.  Update driver, and chose the directory in your DVCR21 wich contain Asus WDM. (no need to do the ini trick)
3-Reboot
4-Unistall DVCR2.1
5-Reboot
6-Install DVCR2.2
Voilà !

(I'm pretty sure you can install the Asus WDM 1.08 alone with DVCR 2.1 and DVCR 2.2 after)

No more white block when I capture, everything is good except ... After I use DVCR and I reboot my pc, I still can hear the sound of the TV.  I have to open DVCR again to close it.  Or I have to always mute the line-in before I close the DVCR.  Anyone has any ideas on that ?

If you have the same setup as me, you can contact me at luvieneq@hotmail.com for more info!

I hope it help! :)

I have an ASUS 7100 Deluxe combo and after installing all the updates for XP, and install WDM 1.08 when I want to install the DVCR 2.2 tells me that "a version previous of DVCR" exists and does it ask to remove it, but doesn't it figure for uninstall, do look for in the registry and neither I did find anything, does somebody have idea against that check when it installs?
cl8man (Visitor)
14 Aug 02 20:56
Hi XZX,

If I'm understanding you correctly, you can't install the latest DVCR 2.2 due to a "previous version" exists. The easiest way is to go to your Control Panel and use the "Add and Remove Programs" icon to get rid of DVCR 2.1.

Be aware that you need to keep a video codec from DVCR 2.1 as no other version comes with it apparently (see SirShaggSalot, Aug. 8, 2002). Does my rig work like it's supposed to? No. But I'm going to try the suggestions listed by Luvien (see Luvien, Aug. 14, 2002).

Good luck!

It works now for me, I had all the errors described...

System:
ASUS 6600 Deluxe (Geforce 256 SDRAM)
NVIDIA Detonator 30.82
NVIDIA WDM 1.08

DVCR 2.2

The following worked for me:

Problem: "Code 10"
Solution: I disconnected the video-in cable! I also trecognized that a 7 pin connector will cause the Code 10... a 4 pin will di fine.

Problem: "white bar"
Solution: Nvidia 1.08 from nvidia, since there is no changelog to find, its hard to say that a 1.16 driver would do better.

Note:
I reinstalled windows 3 times, and spent the whole weekend to solve a problem, which should not be a users task! I am not very amused about Asus...

For all those guys who mailed me with questions regarding getting to work ASUS Live with the V3400 Card under XP:

ASUS Live version 4.6b2 can be downloaded at: http://ftp.cvut.cz/Asus/beta/vga/
and the nVidia driver Win2K-XP_23.11 can be found at:
http://skjalfti.simnet.is/files/drivers/Detonators/

I just updated to the XP bandwagon, and have the Asus V6800 Deluxe. I had a heck of a time
trying to get the capture mode to work with it, now I get a solid "white" bar in the middle of all my captures.

Any idea what is causing this?

I have installed the WDM 1.11 driver that Asus offers, along with the 28.80 drive from Asus.

Well my whole problem with the capture driver going code 10 after rebooting was a voltage problem.  I purchases an antec true powersupply.  3.3 voltage went from 3.08 to a steady 3.20.  Even rebooting and turning on/off system, the driver holds.

U need asus dvcr 2.1, a good powersupply, and no other hardware sharing ur vid card irq.  After all of that, manually update asus wdm to 1.11 and install asus digital vcr 2.2 without uninstalling 2.1

Asus gave me no help with my problem.  They insisted i was an idiot.  Not once did they mention powersupply conflict, even though i had a 400 watt powersupply my voltages were going up and down.  Now with a true powersupply not a problem.  Enermax is good as well.  U need at least 300 watt but i suggest at least a 330 watt ps.

As far as the white bar conflict, i would try to avoid mixing asus and nvidia specific drivers.  My capture works just fine, except it will not play back the files.  Prolly cause i use a codec pack that only associates with mediaplayer.  I watch every file on media player and it looks just as good as it did when i captured it.

I have been weary about upgrading my last PC to WinXP Pro from Win98SE with Asus 3400 as I used that PC to watch TV via the Video In, while I worked. After going through these wonderful threads, I finally got a combo that sort of works:
Win XP Pro (fresh install)
Video Driver - Win2K-XP_23.11 (unsigned)
Asus Live 4.6b2 / 4.6b5 / 4.6r (started with older and upgraded up)

The problem is I cannot watch TV anymore as I can see a single frame and I have to walk over to update each frame manually. Bah! 30 mouse clicks per second; I do not think so. Asus Digital VCR version 2.1 / 2.2 does not work with the vfw Win2k drivers that is installed from the ALive 4.6x. None of the other combos work like various Video and WDM drivers. All ends with Code 10.

I really hate to pension a perfectly working 3400 because of Asus's bad XP support but it is looking like it is a buyer beware of Asus issue.

capture driver is in digital vcr 2.1.  How many time do we have to say it.  It isnt in any other release.  When installed under xp or 2000 it appears under sound and video game controllers, video codec.  Select properties of video codecs and see if the first one says asus asv2 codec.  If it is not there it will not work.

ONCE AGAIN IF IT IS NOT THERE IT WONT WORK!!!
INSTALL VIDEO CARD DRIVERS, ASUS DVCR 2.1 WHICH HAS ALL THE WDM U NEED.
If it still doesnt work, its either an irq conflict or u need to check to make sure ur video card is getting at least 3.15 for the 3.3 voltage.

BTW, xp and 2000 wont tell u there is an irq conflict.  You must check every hardware properties to make sure that ur video irq isnt assigned to anything else.

FORGET WHAT EVERYONE ELSE SAYS ABOUT NVIDIA WDM, IVE ONLY HAD PROBLEMS WITH THOSE WHILE USING ASUS VIDEO DIRVER.

I have removed the Asus Live 4.6x and the vfw Win2K driver installed by Asus Live 4.6x. From here I have the following:

Win XP Pro (fresh install)
Video Driver - Win2K-XP_23.11
DVCR 2.1 (capture portion dumps during install)

On reboot, I checked 3.3V P/S reads 3.33V - very healthy. The DVCR 2.1 Capture install bombs out in the middle of the it's install. I think that us 3400 owners have another wrinkle that 68xx 71xx 82xx owners do not have to deal with. No surprise that I have not  received any email back from Asus Support.

I moved my only PCI card to slot 2 from slot 3 that makes Multimedia IRQ move from IRQ 11 to 9 and 9 is not used by anything else. On reboot, however, XP stuck it back to IRQ 11 that is shared with the VIA Audio, VIA USB, and ACPI. I am going to take this system back to basics and try again.

Will post when I have more info.

System: XP, 7700D.

After the white bar problem(as well as dropped frames in captures above 352x288), I decided on a fresh install of XP. Started reinstalling the usual - 29.80 drivers, Live 4.6r. Live couldn't detect my card unfortunately & after finally finding this thread I fixed the problem. I'm using Digital VCR 2.2 & WDM 1.08. I have no problems capturing to mpeg in any size & the white bar problem is gone & I never have any dropped frames anymore. The only problem is when I capture to AVI, the capture is flipped(Cosworth1 posted the same problem). It seems the ASV2 codec flips the capture & DVCR doesn't let u change the codec(not that I know of anyway). Does anyone know how to change the codec in DVCR or know of a program that can easily flip the capture back to normal?

Can ASUS V6800 captur in WinME?

Hi there fellows!
I read ALL this post but still I haven't found a solution to my problems.
I have XP, and a 7700 ti deluxe.
Naturally I tried to download the 1.08 WDM, but I noticed a WEIRD thing:
In control panel I'm getting only 3 WDM drivers, and guess who's missing??? Video Capture -_-
Installing ASUS or Nvidia doesn't change anything, after removing THOSE 3 drivers, and after installing (e.g.) 1.08 WDM, after reboot I only get those 3 recognized :(
I REALLY don't have a clue as to what to do now.
I am beginning to think I'll NEVER be able to install a VideoCapture driver on this machine :(
Any help will be welcome. :)

Ok, Anything sorted.
Basically I wasn't getting the "fourth" WDM driver in the control panel because I had a "Unknown Peripheral" which I totally ignored. GUESS WHAT? The unknown peripheral was a "old" capture driver which prevented the new video capture drivers from installing.
O_o
So I removed the peripheral, reinstalled 1.08 and eveything went fine. :)
I guess it's true that each day you learn something new. :D

Hey Bewick!

Regarding your problem with a flipped picture when capturing to AVI.. i think you should try use VirtualDub.
If you don't already know about it, get to know it :) - its a brilliant program to let you edit your video files.
it have an internal filter called "rotate", im quite sure thats what you need.

I use Vdub to capture in ASV2, then resize, crop, deinterlace and finally save it as raw avi (take much disk space though).
After that, i can make anything i want from this edited source... SVCD, SBC (DivX 3.11a) DivX 5.02, Xvid...  Thats just the way i do it.

I hope you can use some of this... Good luck!

Hi folks,
I'm trying to make the ASUS V7100 DELUXE combo
show some TV on Win2k. After installing the
drivers 29.80 and NVidia wdm1_11, and DVCR2.2
things started to work a bit. I can see (and record)
almost all channels from the cable, however the sound
is very very noisy (before I used this card on Win ME
and the sound was OK). What am I doing wrong? Before
I also used a diff. sound card but I gues the AUX IN
should work the same way (or if not, I would not hear
anything and not this noise I'm hearing  now).

Any help would be really welcome,
thnx,
Richard.

I have two probs on my hands. 1st any asus version of the display driver i install results in a system hang during boot (during the WinXP logo, just before entering the GUI), 2nd I've got the damn code 10 "device cannot start" curse!! this seems like a major problem for asus cards, and i'll be damned if i do a fresh install of WinXP just to add capture support (same goes for the dual boot solution).

The Asus tech guys better get there act together and come up with a proper explanation.  Seems everyone's come up with completly different answers to the problem!

WinXP, V6800 Deluxe, Asus Live (alive46r.zip):
1. Install Nvidia WDM_1.08.exe
2. Install Asus Live(install Asus capture driver when asked)
3. Run C:\Program Files\ASUS\ASUS Live\I2cInst.exe
4. Enjoy.

I think this is how i did it.... :P

I found that for my setup of XP Pro and the 7100 Deluxe the new (1.17) Nvidia drivers installed twice (they didn't take the first time, a common problem for many) along with the new (4.041) NVidia drivers for the card cured most of my problems.  The only ASUS anythingf I am running are the ASV1 and ASV2 codecs.

Only wierdness: All of my WDM drivers show as Version 1.17, dated 6/27/02 EXCEPT the TV/Audio crossbar, which shows as 1.16 dated 6/7.  Upon examination of the driver details however, nvtvsnd.sys shows up as 1.17 here as well as on disk....very wierd.

I can now capture via channel 3 out the back of an old VCR using any input into the VCR (camera, tape, antenna).  I have the "big white line problem" in composite video capture however. In other words, a direct antenna line in from my VCR antenna out to video card in works OK, the little black converter box which comes with the 7100 Deluxe Combo cannot work via its composite input.

I want to know: Under XP, just how does one change the IRQ or memory allocation resources of the video card?

It's been a while since I've posted, but have learned a lot in the past few weeks.  I thought I'd relay what I found in hopes to help others, but as of yet I have not fully got everything working the way I like it...

My setup (mileage may vary based on setup it seems)
---------------------------------------------------

ASUS P2B v1.02
Celeron 466MHz
ASUS v3400TNT/16MB/TV (SDRAM, not SGRAM)
WinXP Professional
ISA 56k modem
No other cards, no multimedia

Composite versus S-Video?
--------------------------

I have heard a few rumors on some other forums that indicate there is a difference in the way the Composite input is detected versus the SVIDEO input.  Can anyone shed any light on this?  I use the Composite input, which I imagine most people do.  I found a converter at Radio Shack for $20 (!!!), and couldn't bring myself to spending that much money.  But some have indicated that booting WinXP with the SVIDEO connection live will cause the nVidia WDM drivers to properly detect and enable the capture device?  I do not know how the ACPI/StandardPC may interact with this rumor either.

If anyone can shed light on the connector differences, it would be most appreciated.

ACPI versus Standard PC
-----------------------------

These are ultimately methods that WinXP uses to manage resources and power-saving features of your PC.  ACPI gives WinXP the most flexability.  Standard PC gives it the least (and you the most).

ACPI allows WinXP to assign/reassign all IRQ's as it sees fit, no matter what your BIOS has configured them for.  WinXP for some reason likes to share every device on a single IRQ, which seems to be the crux of the video-capture problem.

To date, I have had absolutely no progress on any solution on my ACPI-mode WinXP partition.  But the hard drives power down and the system will go into sleep mode just fine.  I have another partition which I installed WinXP in "Standard PC" mode, and did finally get DVCR working, but at a wimpy 5 or so frames per second rate.  I also got ASUS LIVE v4.6r (started with 4.6b2 and worked my way up with no problems) working flawlessly.  Unfortunately, absolutely no power-management features work.  Hard drives don't spin down, the system does not go into sleep mode (or hibernate).  In fact, I cannot even manually put the system into standby/sleep mode.  It only offers "Hibernate, Off, Restart."  Manually, all three work fine, except it gives the great "It is now safe to turn off your computer" rather than shutting off my ATX power supply. :(  I have tried several regedit mods suggested in other forums to tell WinXP to actually shut off the ATX supply, but it just won't do it on a Standard PC installation.

Installing ASUS LIVE on an ACPI installation will cause your system to freeze-up during boot when the ACPI mode changes all the IRQs around and tries to enable the video capture device.  Major conflicts and WinXP just stops.

WinXP has all sorts of rules that is uses to determine whether or not your system and BIOS support ACPI.  If everything goes great, it installs WinXP with ACPI support.  If not, it installs what is calls "Standard PC" support.  You can actually go through and act like you are going to reinstall WinXP on top of the existing partition (boot from the WinXP disc, etc), but when it says "press F6 if you need to install 3rd party drivers," hit F5 (Not F6!) and let it keep doing its thing.  Eventually, it should pop up a little scroll window where you can choose which HAL (hardware abstraction layer) you want to use.  APCI or Standard PC (Don't install "UniProcessor ACPI" unless you are running a single processor on a dual-processor mainboard!  There is another called "Advanced Power and Control Interface (ACPI)" that is the one you want).  Windows will go through and basically re-install the OS.  I have not performed extensive testing, but it seems to keep all your apps in place, but you loose any WindowsUpdate patches and it looks like it hosed up my Office2000 installation.  All others seem to be okay so far.

Others have indicated that you can just "Update Driver.." on the ACPI in the device manager -- this will not work on all systems!  For some it will work, for others it will probably cause your system to stop booting up.

Intel Application Accelerator?
------------------------------

I did get a response from ASUS that requested me to install the Intel Application Accelerator.  Unfortunately, this makes me wonder if ASUS reads their email -- the IAA does not support the 440BX chipset, which is what the P2B mainboard uses.

Reading a little about IAA (on intel's website), it is basically a chipset-optimized I/O driver, to apparently speed up disk or bus I/O.  Not sure if ASUS was reaching on that one or if anyone has actually seen IAA fix their problem(s).

If you've used IAA and it actually fixed your problem, please us know!

Compatiblity Mode?
-------------------

I recently received a USB Scanner from my father-in-law who couldn't get it working under WinXP.  I looked online and got the WinXP drivers, and sure enough, no success.  I kept playing with it though, and went into the application properties and set it to "Run this program as .. Win2000" and boom, the scanner now works.

I wonder if something similar can be done at a driver level?  or with the video capture software?

If you have any information about such modes with drivers, please let us know!!

Summary
-----------

Well, that's about all I've got for today.  Hopefully this will help spark more testing and as a team we can work these issues out for all card types in WinXP.

I do make one request.  Those that post, please document the following in at least one of your posts (not necessarily every time, unless always applicable):

- mainboard type (manf, model, etc) and rev if you know it
- video card type (and rev if you know it)
- drivers (many already list drivers, but nothing else)

thanks!

Hi guys, here's my setup:

Asus v8200 T2 (geforce3)
Technogarb drivers 28.32
Nvidia WDM 1.08
Asus DVCR 2.2

Everything is working perfectly right now.  I want to upgrade to the latest Nvidia Detnonator drivers 40.41 and Asus WDM driver 1.19 .  Since the technogarb drivers are not made anymore, is there a way I can SAFELY install the nvidia drivers without messing up my setup?
What about the Asus WDM driver?  Is there a correct way to installing this driver?

Thanks!

For all users of ASUS v3400 (and others) with WDM problems.

First some technical notes then something else you might like...

First of all I have to comps running W2k, one with a 440GX chipset and a v3400 card and one with 440BX chipset and a v6600. Using the NViDIA WDM driver ver 1.08 I have gotten vidcapture to work on the v6600 (no other ones worked, vga driver seem not to matter). However my v3400 could not work at all, no matter what vga and wdm drivers (ok I haven't test all versions).
Prior to all this I had noticed that I for a while had had a system component in the device manager, but the name was so non-informative so I didn't think much of it (ai2cnt is what it is called and you must select 'Show hidden devices' for it to be visible under 'Non-plug-and-play devices'). Anyhow it seems that it was the I2C driver from Asus that was failing. I do not know if the I2C driver is needed for WDM operation (that is if the WDM driver has some other I2C driver that it loads). So what the heck is I2C? I2C is a bus that is used to control passive components from PCI master (active) components. This means that the NViDIA chip NV3, NV4 (for TNT) and others up to NV25 (or what ever the GF4 TI500 is) uses this bus to commuincate with and control the video decoder. The video decoder (video-in) found on the ASUS cards usually comes from Philips and is a member of the SAA71xx chip family. The v3400 uses the SAA7111 (A or H). After reading through some posts I found that there used to be a program called i2cinst.exe included in the old ASUS live and checking the versions of the files it differed between the two computers. I have know changed the driver file manually to be the same as on the v6600 comp (ver 1.30 of ai2cnt) and it no longer reports an error. So did this help me? No, but it might help some one else.

So have you just been reading a lot of text in vain? No! Because I have something else for you. Or rather Igor Lookin has something else for you. If you surf on over to http://www.ab.ru/~lookin you will find something as magical as a russian who has developed an entirely new WDM driver for all our video-capturing needs. His WDM driver does however not seem to support tools like Virtual Dub so I guess it is not a full WDM implementation in that it lacks DirectShow stuff. However he also supplies a video capture program called Video Live that supports DivX 5.02 and Windows media file capture. It is pretty sweet. Just don't forget to get the license file and unpack it in the program directory. Besides this he also has program for teletext, controlling your video decoder (if your smart you might even be able to uncrypt analog cable channels etc. Hopefully I could make myself understandable, I'm really tired right now. Well, happy capturing and good night!

P.S please tell me if you get the NViDIA WDM driver to work with the v3400 (and especially if it is in a 440GX system) since I would like to have a driver with DirectShow support. Thanks.

P.P.S Sorry for all the lame emoticons, I couldn't help myself

More technical stuff

I just remembered one point that I was going to make in my original post.

After reading through a lot of information, posts, inf-files and code in Igor Lookin's SDK (which I also failed to mention) it seems that the NV3 (the one before TNT) and NV4 (TNT) are called in a somewhat different way than the NV5 (TNT2) and later. This might explain why in almost all ASUS and NVIDIA readme files the v3400 (TNT) has been dropped from 'Supported products'. Any info on this??

Well...zzzzzz

Ahhh crap, I'll never get to bed...

First of all there is a new ASUS WDM version that I have not tried. 1.19 for those of you who have not noticed.

Second. If you look in the nvcap.inf file found in the WDM install package and scroll down somewhat you find

HKR,,Address,,0x4a         ; I2C address only important if
                           ; VideoDecoder != AUTO

And of course video decoder can be set to all possible Philips decoders by

HKR,,VideoDecoder,,AUTO    ; "SAA7111", "SAA7111A", "SAA7112V0",
                           ; "SAA7112", "SAA7113V0", "SAA7113",
                           ; "SAA7113A", "SAA7114", "AUTO"

Now, if set my videodecoder manually since I know (from Lookin's programs) what decoder I have. How do I then find what I2C adress to set for it? Please help!

Well... good night.

P.S All people not living in NTSC country (USA etc) should set their video standard in the .inf file prior to installing (regardless of WDM version) to something relevant for their country...

HKR,,VideoStandard,,NTSC   ; "NTSC", "PAL", "SECAM",
                           ; "NTSC_433_50", "NTSC_433_60",
                           ; "NTSC_N", "PAL_433_60", "PAL_N",
                           ; "PAL_M", "AUTO"

Of course you could do this using regedit post-install also.

Please note that the i2cinst.exe thingy included in some of the old ASUS Live packages might explain why some people state that even their WDM started working after installing Live. This also implies that the ai2cnt indeed is used by the WDM driver. So people what's your version of it??.

I my memory serves me right about reading that WDM started to work after Live install that is...

Could someone please just hit me in the head so I go to sleep???

Hi.  I'm running Windows 2000 Server and I have an ASUS V3800 with video-in and -out.

I tried installing the most updated NVIDIA driver (40.41_winxp.exe) and WDM (1.16).

And then I tried ASUS DVCR 2.1.

But when I try capturing video, an error comes out saying that I have the wrong driver installed.  What gives?

I did get it working this weekend.  Key seems to be new drivers, I even have composite as well as the TV Tuner (I have my VCR hooked up to it, outputing on channel 3) working with all capture programs.

Nvidia's new 6.13.10.4041 drivers
New capture drivers 1.1.9.0 (9/Sept)

Just because Device Manager says the new drivers are installed, don't trust it.  Look in driver detail and examine the non-Window's files found there.  Make sure nvcap.sys actually IS 1.1.9 by looking at the actual properies of \WINDOWS\system32\drivers\nvcap.sys.  Do the same, after you install them, to NVTUNEP.SYS, NVTVSND.SYS
and finally NVXBAR.SYS. While Window's Device Manager told me the files were there, they really were not when I looked on the hard drive.

Good luck....oh, one other thing I did, probably unrelated, was clock my AGP card up with one of the Detonator add-in I found.  I am pretty sure we 7100 Deluxe Combo owners are dealing with an XP Interupt/IO issue here, not completely fatal, but close if you don't have the right hard ware.

Now, who has Netmeeting working?

Just a quick note to thank Freddy V for the posts regarding Igor Lookin's WDM drivers.

I have attempted various installations of Igor's drivers and Video Live software in both ACPI and StandardPC configurations and with all sorts of video drivers (nVidia reference and ASUS customized).

It has worked *EVERY* time!

FWIW -- I am using a V3400TNT/16/TV AGP card on a P2B (440BX) mainboard with a Cele466MHz w/ 256PC133 RAM.

I have yet to get any of the ASUS software (Live! or DVCR) to work with this configuration except in StandardPC mode, where my power management features are thrown out the window (see my post on 11Sept2002).

I would highly recommend all with v3400 cards to surf over to Igor's site (http://www.ab.ru/~lookin) and download the various packages.  It's a little tricky since there is a WDM driver, a VideoLive software, and an updated registration key that's necessary to make it all work.  A couple times I got a few errors when trying to install it.  Sometimes just trying again worked, sometimes by rebooting and trying the installation immediately after rebooting did the trick.  Once installed, though, the software works extremely well.

okay, found it!

http://www2.driverguide.com/uploads/uploads13/42069.html

this is the site where you can get the wdm 1.08 drivers from Nvidia, first you install the WDM 1.11 from Asus, reboot, and you get 4 new 'device's', after this, install the wdm 1.08, he will remove the other drivers, but not the registry entries. You reboot again, that should work, no more white bar in your movies you record.

I have an Asus v8200 T2, XP Pro, AMD 1.33 oc'ed to 1.59, 512 Mb Ram, Asus TVBox, ect, etc.  If you are having problems with this still try this:

1- Install the latest Asus driver for you video Card
2- Reboot
3- Install the nVidia WDM capture driver.  After reboot, new hardware will be found.  Go ahead and let them install.  Install DVCR2.1 WITH the Asus WDM driver.  When everything is installed, go Control panel--> System--> Hardware--> Device Manager--> Sound,Video & game controller.  Check the WDM driver and you will see that the name is NVIDIA for 4 different drivers.  Update them manually to the folder containing the Asus WDM drivers.  This will eliminate the need for performing the .ini trick.
4- Once all have been updated, install DVCR2.2.
5- Reboot (for good measure)
Now everything will work fine, but the sound will not automatically shut off when you close the program.  You will have to mute the sound prior to exiting for some strange reason, but easy to deal with considering everything else.  If you know of a fix for the sound problem, please let me know.
There are alot of good files here:  http://ftp.cizgi.com.tr/ASUS/vga/Liveupdate/app/

Running both Win98SE and WinXP Pro on the same system.
CPU: Pentium 4 2Ghz - 512mb ram (PC800)
Motherboard: Asus P4T
Video: Asus V8200 Ti200 (GeForce3)

I do video Capturing and Editing with Adobe Premiere 6.01. I don't use Asus digitalVCR nor Asus Live.

I'll try to be as clear as possible so forgive me if it may seem long, but thank you very mutch for trying to help.

Like many others, I noticed that after installing the Asus Capture Drivers v 1.04g and rebooting, only Win98SE detected the new hardware, while WinXP didn't detect a thing. After reading a couple of threads here, I downloaded the NVidia Capture drivers, installed v1.19 and after rebooting, WinXP detected and installed the new hardware. Everything seemed ok, or so I thought.

I couldn't wait to use WinXP for capturing some sequences but when comes the time for the capture driver setup under Adobe Premiere, the only option I get is YUVY, where in Win98 I can choose from YUVY, Asus 2.0, 24 bits RGB, etc... The problem with YUVY is that capturing at 320x240 takes up a huge 250Mb for 1 minute!!!! When I use the Asus compression (only available in Win98) it's about 50 Mb for 1 minute.

I also noticed that the dialogs are not the same in Win98 and WinXP. I'm talking here about the dialogs when setting up the VFW (video for windows) options in Premiere.

So, the nVidia drivers might have a higher version number (1.08 - 1.19), but to me they are less efficient than the Asus ones (1.04g).

I tried installing the Asus Codecs but there is still only YUVY to choose in the VFW setup dialog under Premiere. Although, since I installed the Asus Codecs, of course I can now read the files I captured in Win98 with the "Asus 2.0" selection in VFW settings.

So right now I have to capture in Win98, and switch to XP for editing, otherwise, it's 250Mb/min.

When I look at the video Codecs in Win98, I have 3 lines about Asus, but in WinXP I only have 2, but this is the way the Codec installation .inf file is made.

At last, my question, and if you're still with me you probably guessed it, how can I get to capture with the Asus 2.0 codec under WinXP. In other words, how can I get the same choices that I have in Win98, when I get to the VFW setup dialog under Premiere 6.x.

Thank you for your time and attention...

I have Asus DVCR 2.2 working fine with my system.  My only problem is that DVCR 2.2 uses a lot of CPU resources.  I get CPU utilization of 70%-80% during live viewing.  I've tried some different drivers and bios settings but nothing seems to help.  Using the 1012a beta bios lowered CPU utilization about 10% but it's still high and some of my power features don't work in 1012a so I went back to 1011.

I also use PowerVCR II sometimes.  It only uses 3%-8% of CPU resources.  The picture quality isn't quite at good on my 110" projection screen but it's very stable overall and I can do all kinds of other tasks while watching TV.

Does anyone have any ideas why Asus DVCR uses such high resources?

Every permutation of the NVidia WDM capture drivers messed up my system with the Code 10 thingie. Stock ones, Asus modded ones, etc.

What worked was:

1) Install Asus video card drivers. I have 31.40 now, I don't know if it would work anyway with the NVidia reference ones.

2) Make sure there's no trace of capture drivers installed. Disinstall the NVidia ones, old Asus ones, etc.

3) Here's the trick. I think that the Conexant encoder used in the 3400 isn't supported by the Nvidia drivers and the Asus mods bundled with the sucky apps like Asus VCR etc. So the trick is finding an Asus driver that works with the 3400 under Win2k/XP. The final release of Asus Live doesn't feature any driver but the beta 5, in fact, does. You can see it inside the .zip, it's acap*.* . In fact it's a Win2k driver, but works fine in XP too.

http://www.asus.com/pub/asus/beta/vga/live46b5.zip

Install it with setup.exe, and it will ask if you want to update the Asus capture driver. OK, reboot. Bingo. Same functionality as Win 98. The zip also features two little exes for installing and uninstalling the driver without Live itself.

It works quite well, you can specify the codec used including the asus ones, DivX, etc.

Problems: only quirk is that the frame rate seems less fluid than what it was on 98. Probably less mature, efficient driver.

Hope it helps, take care :)

Guess I spoke too soon. Heh.
The driver is horribly broken.
Captured video is speeding up more or less randomly and video and audio are out of sync and jittery.
It's still decent for just watching TV, as long as you don't want to grab stuff.

Someone has devised a better solution in the meantime?

FuzzY-LogiC, can you please specify the process you go through.  I have this interesting problem.  I am able to capture Hi8 camcorder video using DVCR no problem from the SVCD input of my 8200 Ti200.  Only issue is that there is some minor quality loss.

When I try to use VirtualDub with any combo of deinterlacing filter and compression the damn interlacing choppiness is still in the AVI file!

My goal is to get lossless footage that I can then run through any encoding process afterwards.  Can you tell me what steps you follow to get the video to look smooth?

Also, anyone know how I can get VirtualDub to allow me to change the format to YUY2?  It only allows UYVY in XP and 98.

Never mind, stupid thing I was trying to do was filter during the capture.  You must capture then deinterlace using a filter in VirtualDub.  Supposedly Avisynth offers the best current solution using the Bob parameter, but I havent figured out the procedure for that method.  Probably would have to demux audio, process, then remux again.

As for the white block, get the archived version of the WDM off of Nvidia's site 1.08 and it should fix the problem.  NOTE: make sure that you change the *.inf file for the crossbar to install an ASUS not nvdia crossbar (ASUS must be in caps) otherwise DVCR will not work.

I got stuff to work. After a lot of research. solution: don't use VfW drivers or (!) microsofts VfW2WDM wrapper. Don't use Virtualdub to capture! It uses the wrapper if you have the WDM codec installed. i.e. it must have VfW as input. result: dropped frames. never use VfW and Asus Live under W2K or WXP, it only works under 98.

V6xxx/v7xxx must use Nvidia WDM 1.08
V8xxx/v9xxx use newer Nvidia WDM drivers
in any case: get new vga drivers at:
ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/TREIBER/VGA/NVIDIA/

Use Ivan Uskov's VCR instead of Asus VCR
http://www.iulabs.com/eng/index.shtml
It can use all WDM drivers :) The Nvidia 1.08 drivers but also BT878 drivers for your TV-card (also provided by Uskov)

To capture lossless use HuffYUV:
http://math.berkeley.edu/~benrg/huffyuv.html

kay. that's it! if it doesn't work... I'm at a loss! Maybe also flash your vga bios to enable the sideband? :)

wait! :) another warning! :)
If you don't use Nvidia WDM 1.08 but a newer version on a V6xxx or V7xxx card you will see a white bar. to get rid of it use Nvidia WDM 1.08. and remember: don't use virtualdub to capture! (but it's fine to encode AVIs)

V6600 Deluxe and it only took me 2 years to get it working! I do know a lot about it now :)

It has a Chrontel 7005 tv encoder chip:
Nice software: http://www.tvtool.de/
Also works with newer Nvidia TV-out.

And a philips SAA7113 or something :)

Ah nevermind.

OK, I too have the Asus V7100 Deluxe Combo.  I too got it working in XP Home under the WDM 1.08 driver, all the rest are the latest ASUS drivers.  I'm not doing any tweaking so those aren't loaded, nor are the security drivers.  The box is pretty fast, and I get no frame drops at DVD levels in hours.  Very nice, alsmost as nice as it was working in ME.  BUT.....  Get this, now if I open ANY game, the system RE-BOOTS!  Yes, I got the latest drivers; H suffex dated 1/6/03.  Yes, I have e-mailed ASUS; no answers at all (any thoughts on how to reach them, phone etc?).  The 3D picture viewer re-boots too if you open it.  I have checked all the advanced system settings; they are all fine with an occasional message you haven't set up your monitor (I have) but other than that nothing.  The test settings do flicker the glasses a bit, but they aren't blocking it enough to see 3D and I tried setting it to page-flip and interlaced with no results.  I did have one early problem; the I set the AGP driver to nVidia instead of the SiS 650 chipset on the mother board (AsRock G-Pro/ 1.8 GHz P4/640 Mb RAM) but I have long since corrected that problem to no avail.  Next try will be to uninstall everything and re-install the AGP driver FIRST.  This appears to be a 3D driver problem.  Each of those re-boots gets mailed to Microsoft as a major error, but this is getting pretty silly.  BTW, the system is working flawlessly uther than this silly re-boot issue.  Any thoughts?

Duh... I solved my re-boot problem.  Yes, Windows was trying to tell me something.  That message, you haven't set up your monitor?  I had, but I had it WRONG.  At the resolution I was using it can't do vertical over 85 Hz; you need 100 for the glasses to work.  I dropped the resolution and vola!  Good 3D, no re-boots.  The monitor description file wasn't right.  Now I have the whole thing working... well, the 3D viewer has dropped the zoom feature, but it's pretty robust now.

I have Asus 7700 Deluxe on Windows XP, with nVidia graphics driver 41.09 and WDM driver 1.19 (WDM from Asus website).  Asus Digital VCR shows a blank screen on capture.  Windows Movie Maker shows a fast-flickering static image.

I tried nVidia WDM driver 1.22 but it does not work.  Capture device can not be started (code 10).

Any idea on how to figure out what is wrong?

Hi!
I have Asus 7700 Deluxe on Windows 98SE, with nVidia graphics driver 41.09 and WDM driver 1.08 (as someone correctly suggested, the only one that works with the 7700 card...!).  All the video capture seems work fine now, but... Asus VCR doesn't capture any sound! In the configuration window is not possible to select the audio capture devide (my Soundblaster sound card?!).

So, for the moment I have a nice folder on my desktop with two drivers... The detonator 41.09 and the original one provided with the 7700... Normally I have the detonator installed, and when I need to capture I re-install the old one. And I use the original capture driver provided with the video card (I uninstalled the WDM driver...).
I know... Is not really a solution, but is the only way for me to handle the problem with ASUS VCR...

Any suggestion to solve the problem?

Many thanks...

I worked a lot with no problem with a P3 1Ghz Win98SE and V7700 deluxe, capturing from an analog camera using ASV2 compression and Ulead Media Studio 6.5 and then creating mpeg vcd, svcd an dvd...but...now I installed XP (six times!!!) and applied everything this forum suggests.

I installed the last v7700 video driver from asus... the asus WDM 1.08 in the asusdvcr2.1 beta which seems to have the right inf file (with ASUS replacing nVidia).Win Xp found and installed the ASUS WDM A/V etc... 4 new device... then I installed the last asusdvcr. Starting the asusdvcr it pops up an error  'file not found' (!) and a strange kernel error... but continue... and seems to work but there no way to capture using ASV2 encoding. Only mpeg (very frame loser...) or AVI msyuv (but not asv2)
So I used the ulead capture software and ... no error on starting ...but no way to set AVI ASV2 encoding.
The strange thing is that in the property of the WDM capture you find the ASUS mask with quality settings! So ... help...
How can I set ASV2 encoding ??? It seems to be only a ASV decoder (I can see the old ASV2 AVI file).

In this forum many times there was a question on the possible decision of a problem with videocapture for nVIDIA-videocards in Windows XP. I also have collided it when tried to provide videocapture with ASUS V3400TNT-TV. Whatever I try, I get the message for the capture driver "This Device cannot start (Code 10). Unfortunately, all recommendations mentioned here and possible combinations of drivers could not help me.
Interestingly that I also could not use the WDM-driver in Windows Millenium. It may a problem is caused ACPI?
Someone have an idea?
My system:
Windows XP Professional (not SP1)
AMD 900 Duron
256Mb
ASUS KT133A VIA + last MB drivers VIA4in1
ASUS V3400-TV 16Mb
ASUS video driver 21.81a
Creative SB Live 5.1 + last drivers update

However, I have found out that there is a program of videocapture Video Live (http://www.ab.ru/~lookin/), developed by Igor Lukin. It uses the own driver of videocapture (in which the old mistake of ASUS drivers causing incorrect autoregulation of brightness completely was corrected) and does not depend on installation of other drivers of videocapture. I was pleasantly surprised with convenience, a good choice of adjustments and high quality of work of this program. Unique lack of its autonomy is impossibility of use of its driver for videocapture by other programs. But it is not so important. It completely justifies the small price (35$) though while there is an opportunity of its free-of-charge testing.

Same problem like everybody else( Athlon 850,asus k7v, v6800, XP pro). Tried everything so far. The only thing that needed change was the f@#% AGP voltage. The jumper (VIO Regulator) says 3.4V, Smart Doctor reads 3.29V( as oposed to 3.31/3.22V before). No need of reinstall ANY software. Repeat drivers are fine, the hardware setting of voltage supplied to AGP possibly needs increase- I read somewhere that the graphics chip needs higher voltage to get the signal to the driver. Feel like I bought a new card!

I heard about Technogarb drivers, and I also heard that capturing video with my card should work in XP with those drivers. So please, could someone just tell me what do I have to do that I can capture video in XP like I can with WIN98? Everytime I start AsusLive and try to capture in XP, it just crashes down. Help, please. I really need it.

Greetings: I'm running an ASUS A7N8X mb and an ASUS V6600 deluxe 32 meg SGRAM video card. I've installed WinXP and lost my capture ability. The WDM capture drivers that I repeatedly installed was flagged in the device manager and XP also gave me a code 10. (hardware won't start) I've been looking and trying things for weeks and now I have it.
The key for me was using the asvd200 zip download, which is the ASUS Video Codecs from there site and the asdvcr21 zip file which is an older Asus Digital VCR but is bundled with the "ASUS WDM Video capture drivers (Universal)". I had to run the WDM driver set up from inside it's own folder after unzipping the asdvcr21 folder or I would get errors when the drivers would try to install. Once I had the "ASUS WDM Video capture drivers (Universal)" installed along with the other 3 WDM pieces (crossbars etc.), I went for the latest Digital VCR from Asus and installed that.
I had no success with the nVidea drivers at all even when I modified the ini file. My nephew has an ASUS 8200 with capture and none of this is an issue for him. His Card Came with the "nVidea WDM Video capture drivers (universal)". I tried them too from his CD with no success. I don't know for sure, but I have been lead to believe, from this experience, that this may be unique to the older cards.
It's very exciting to get past this problem and I hope this helps someone else.

The signal is PAL-BGH, on cable in The Netherlands.

Halleluiah! This thread solved my problem. I've spent 4 hours trying to get my POS Gainward GeForce2 MX400 VIVO Golden Sample to do video capture with Windows XP and thanks to a clever poster here, I finally solved it!

I was getting the same error: This device cannot start Code 10. Ugh! But rhodan_at posted on Aug 18, 2002 and said you can't have the Video In plugged into the card when you install the drivers, or else you get the Code 10 error. And this totally worked. THANKS!!

So to anyone who's having this problem with a Gainward GeForce2 MX400 VIVO you need to go to Device Manager, right-click any of the drivers that have the Yellow Exclamation and click Uninstall. Then log off. Now, UNPLUG the VIVO cable whip from the back of your video card!! If you have the VIVO cables plugged in when you try to install the WDM video capture drivers, you'll get the Code 10 error.

Now log back in, let Windows XP detect your hardware, choose the driver manually, and it should install without any Code 10 crap.

Good luck!

Hello! I try to solve the "Code10 error" since I bought my Ti4200 graphics card. At first I replaced the old 300W PSU with an Enermax 350W supply, because there was too less currency on the 3.3V-line. I had 3,17V before replacement and after that the system monitor stated 3.34V, which should be enough, but the Code10 error remained! So I spend a whole weekend and found two solutions:

1. Install an older Nvidia Detonator (30.72 or similar) and an older Nvidia WDM driver (must be 1.08!).This works, unfortunately you can't use a recent Detonator driver, because then you'll get the error again.

2. Detach all Video connectors from your Vivo port/cable, BEFORE you boot your PC. This will ensure that the WDM Driver starts properly. After boot process you can connect the cables to the Vivo port and everything is fine.
With this solution you can also use newer WDM drivers like 1.22 and the newest detonator drivers.

If anyone has an allround solution for the error10-problem, please post!!!

Try following the steps I got it to work:
(it's always best to install all the drivers and software manually - not
through installer)

1. Go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.

2. You should see "nVidia WDM drivers" remove it completely AND DO NOT
restart the computer just yet.

3. Now, locate "nVidia display drivers" and remove it too.  Now you can
restart.

4. After Windows restarts, it will say found new hardware - cancel on
that.

5. Browse the Drivers folder and install drivers from setup.
Restart computer.

6. Browse the WDM folder and install capture drivers from setup.
After it's finished - DO NOT RESTART THE COMPUTER YET.

7. Go to device manager and do "Scan for hardware changes".  It should
find capture drivers. This part is very important part: Do not install
drivers automatically. Instead choose "From specific location", and
after choose "Don't search, I will choose the driver". After installing
you can restart the computer.

I actually use WDM 1.23 from Gainward, and the lastest Nvidia Detonator drivers.

After 8 sleepless nights, reinstalling W200 to XP I know, that so f.....g work was for nothing. Tuner on Asus V7100 is so unsensitive, that you can catch totaly nothigh and if so,it's in veerry bad quality. Sell this card,if you can. Buy another. A haven't met any other more problematic card than this. With success and disapointing I win:

Try this way,on your risk. These are my moments and my expriencies,so I don't tell it must me truth:

1. Install Nvidia Detonator 41.04. Newer will not work,
respective It will get Error 10 when installing any kind
   of WDM from Nvidia.

2. Install Stereo Drivers fo VR glasses 45.4 - you can have newer ones than Detonator

3. Install Asus DVCR 2.1 for WDM support

4. Install Dvcr 2.2 - the latest you can have, because in 2.5 my sound disappeared. Don't know why.

5. Install WDM 1.19b from Nvidia. Tuner works also with drivers from DVCR 2.1, but I tried the latest one I can

6. Download some tuning program. I use FlyDS. It's much more intelligent for tuning than the asus one in Dvcr.

Connect line from VGA to TDA-in on SB live, you will get sound from both speaker (4 sp.)

VR glasses wroks, glide works, D3d works, tuner seems to work. But as I told, don't expect miracle. Each other is better.

I use PAL-D and while starting Asus DVCR and tuning I get error country code, but it jumps over and continue..

I have a V7100 Deluxe Combo, and I suspect 7903234185 (TechnicalUser) has a bad or noisy tuner on his card.  This is the 4th. different tuner card I've had, and is as good as any in the lot.  Better than my ATI.  The card isn't noisy at all, and with any decent source can capture just fine.  I've used it under 98SE, ME and XP.  I typically do NOT use the ASUS DVCR program for anything other than watching TV; I use Ulead Media Studio Pro 7 for capture.  The driver combo for XP is very sensitive; I've had the box 'lose' the stereo drivers on occasion, and I appreciate the tips as I haden't tried the latest nvidia referece 3d drivers yet.

I installed my Asus V7700ti Deluxe in my PC with Asus CUSL-L (Socket370) mainboard and 1 GHz P-III. The WDM Capture driver I downloaded from the nVidia site (v2.20) didn't work (cannot start error 10 in Device Manager), so I re-installed XP Pro, to no avail. Switching drivers to the Asus ones (from the Asus site) didn't work either. I read this thread and found out that I needed to install WDM driver v1.08.
But I was still worried about things written here about the AGP voltage (my mainboard has no jumpers for that purpose), the cables which could not be connected during boot (not handy) and the necessary older video card driver version. Plus, Ik couldn't find WDM driver v1.08 anywhere, until I decided to take a look at ftp.asuscom.de, where I instantly found it, and it worked promptly!

NO problems whatsoever with the video card driver version (I now use the newest nVidia ones, v56.77), and NO problem with the cables, which were connected at the time of installation of WDM driver version 1.08. NO problem with the AGP voltage too. Also NO problem with the automated installation of the WDM driver; just "next, next, finish" and after a reboot & the following automatic hardware detection everything worked correctly!

Summary of successful installation steps for V7700 Deluxe:

- Install fresh WinXP (may not even be necessary)
- Install normal video card drivers of your choice (Asus or nVidia)
- Install WDM Capture Driver v1.08 from ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/TREIBER/VGA/NVIDIA/V9xx0/6X_7X_WDM_1_08.EXE

Good luck!

Well I read through everything here and there looks to be a lot of good advice. Unfortunately none of it worked for me (it could XP SP2 that's the difference). Anyway, I did manage to get my ASUS 6600 deluxe running under XP after much playing around so figured I'd share. I installed the current newest nVidia drivers first (the Asus ones may work as well, not sure) then on the official US Asus site, under the 6800 deluxe section they have the 1.19 wdm update driver posted. That did the trick. Both ASUS DVCR & MS Movie Maker are working fine now. Any of the other (older or newer) WDM drivers caused the device cannot be started (10) message on my system.

Hope this helps someone.
Pete.

I'm experiencing some of the same problems and have found same of the same solution.

I have:
1) Asus V7100 Combo Deluxe
2) Athlon XP 2000+
3) Asus A7V333
4) Sound Blaster Live! Player 5.1
4) dual boot os: windows 98SE and Windows XP Pro

I've connected the antenna cable to RF In  and the three RCA jack to AV In via the Asus Adaptor. The AV out is connected to the Line In of the audio card.

Under win98:
1) using Asus Live I can correctly watch and catpure TV (TV tuner) or VHS (composite),
2) but using VirtualDub or Ulead VideoStudio or Primiere 6 I have NO SOUND at all.

Under Win XP:
1) using Movie Maker, Asus Virtual Recorder
   a) I can watch TV but I have NO SOUND
   b) I CAN'T HEAR OR SEE ANYTHING IF I SELECT COMPOSITE
2) using VirtualDub freeze if I try to capture.

On XP I've installed the latest nVidia video driver (66.93) and the WDM 1.08 (the last nvdia VIVO or VIVO TV will not install properly - error 10)

Do you have any suggestions?

thanks, Marco
