Microsoft: Visual C++ FAQ

Microsoft Office

How do I automate the MS Office applications, or work with Office documents, from Visual C++?
Posted: 29 May 01

My usual approach to this kind of problem is to try and pass the task off to a brainy college intern.  But assuming that isn't an option, you might want to try the following two Microsoft links.

Link #1: Microsoft Office Development with Visual Studio
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?URL=/library/techart/VSOfficeDev.htm

Link #2: Automating Microsoft Office 97 and Microsoft Office 2000
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?URL=/library/techart/offaut.htm

Also, CodeGuru has a brief sample that shows how to accomplish one simple task: printing a Word document.  The general principles shown should apply regardless of what app you're using or what task you're performing.
