• Duo Tone Pictures!

There are 4 ways to create this effect:

# - 1
- open your picture
- IMAGE|MODE|GRAYSCALE
- discard color information
- IMAGE|MODE|DUOTONE
- select dutone from dropdown menu
- click on the second color box
- click PICKER button
- choose your color
- and hit ok to everything
- IMAGE|ADJUSTMENTS|BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST
- set Brightness to -25 and contrast to 0
- if your color isn't quite what you want then goto
- IMAGE|ADJUSTMENTS|HUE/SATURATION (Ctrl+U)
- DON'T CLICK COLORIZE
- move the sliders accordingly

# - 2
the output of this looks almost indentical but you have more flexibilty in choosing your colors
- open your picture
- IMAGE|MODE|GRAYSCALE
- discard color information
- IMAGE|MODE|RGB Color
- IMAGE|ADJUSTMENTS|HUE/SATURATION (Ctrl+U)
- Click "colorize" and move the slider for the hue (this is where you have a bit more flexibility)
- set Saturation between from 30 - 50
- and lightness between -40 - 0 (I recommend 0, only go down to -40 if you want the illusion of it being night)
- IMAGE|ADJUSTMENTS|BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST
- set Brightness to -25 and contrast to 0

For an added touch you can goto:
FILTER|RENDER|LIGHTING EFFECTS

# - 3
- make 2 layers
- have your colored picture on top layer
- make bottom layer with a solid color you wish to use (ie-green for a greenscale picture, etc.)
- change the colored pictures blending mode to luminosity

# - 4
- one layer with your colored picture
- press Ctrl+Shift+U (desaturate)
- press Ctrl+U (HUE/SATURATION)
- use the sliders to get desired color

Pictures of people work the best for this.

As you can probably tell, I have done more than just change the color to duotone. Once you become really good at photoshop you can do things like this really easily.
