Keep Tables from Readjusting

Tables are a great way to control how text is layed out on a web site.  But you've probably also noticed that some browsers make adjustments to the table that defeat what you're trying to do.  You might want two even columns, but a browser makes one much bigger than the other.  Fortunately, the fix is simple:

Create an image that's the same color as your background.  This is called a "pixelshim" and is used to shore up the table.

Insert into an empty cell and adjust the size to what you want.  This will keep browsers from readjusting your tables.
