Microsoft: Visual C++ FAQ

ActiveX control

Why does \n out put that funny looking pipe, and not a new line?
Posted: 16 Jan 02

This is a common mistake made, mostly by people accustomed to a UNIX environment.  Windows requires the use of \r\n for new line feed.

\r - Mac new line.
\n - Unix/Dos new line.
\r\n - Windows new line.

Hope this is helpful
