How do I keep a textarea or text input box from being editable? by carpeliam
Posted: 13 Jul 00

Whenever you'd like to make a textarea or text input box read-only, this is all you need:

<!-- text box -->
<INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="box_name" onFocus="this.blur();">

<!-- textarea -->
<TEXTAREA NAME="textarea_name" onFocus.blur();"></TEXTAREA>

Internet Explorer also supports the READONLY attribute if JavaScript has been turned off, but JavaScript is recommended as it is cross-browser.
